Singapore on a Budget — 5 Days Under $700
Yes, it's possible. Here's our breakdown of accommodation, food, and transport.
Singapore has a reputation for being expensive, but with a little planning you can experience the city-state for under $700 over five days, excluding flights.
Where to stay
Skip the Marina Bay hotels and look at well-reviewed hostels and budget hotels in Geylang or Little India — clean, central and a fraction of the price. Budget around $40–55 a night.
Eat at hawker centres
Singapore's hawker centres serve some of the best food in Asia for a few dollars a plate. Maxwell, Lau Pa Sat and Old Airport Road are local favourites — a full meal rarely costs more than $5.
Get around cheaply
The MRT is fast, clean and inexpensive. A stored-value EZ-Link card covers trains and buses across the island, and most attractions are a short walk from a station.
Free and cheap sights
Gardens by the Bay's outdoor gardens, the Marina Bay light show, Merlion Park and the Botanic Gardens are all free. Budget one paid attraction per day and you'll still come in under target.
